Square scrub for vct
After talking to Joe the other day and a few other guys I have found that not everyone knows about square scrub. Is this true for this board too? If that's the case I would be happy to explain the pros and cons of this machine and the limitations I have found. I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who may have used this machine for encapping and prescrubbing grout. Anyways, I'm just trying to figure out ways to contribute.
Re: Square scrub for vct
I have a Square Scrub. It does a good job,but if the VCT is dirty I find it will not strip the floor clean when dry stripping. It does have a wet stripping pad that works very well and does a excellent in the corners and edging. They also have a green pad that looks like grass for Tile & Grout. I used that on two jobs with good results. Never used it on carpet seams very heavy for that. Just my option. Another tool in the tool box.

I have had mine for awhile it was the only model at the time. Now the new ones have more weight and faster rpm vac hook up

Re: Square scrub for vct
The square scrub is great for any floor that isn't thrashed, sometimes you just have to make extra passes. The benefits vs wet stripping with a rotary are; no wax slung all over the baseboard, don't have to worry about tracking wet wax or stripper on surrounding areas, don't have to extract wax slurry and then rinse out of shop vac. Instead you just vacuum the ground up dry wax with either a bacpack vac or floor vac and rinse. I used to mop the floor three times after wet stripping, now I just hook up the truckmount with the tile spinner @1000 psi and rinse. It cleans better and dries faster. Then I dry the floor with a few airpaths and snail fans and apply the wax. Then I set up snail fans around the perimeter blowing up at 45 degrees to circulate the air (if you blow air directly across the wax it will ripple and looks terrible). This seems to cut 10 to 20 minutes off the dry times between coats, especially on the larger areas.

Good description there...never thought about aiming a couple of fans like that. I was always scared to have a fan anywhere near those jobs in case they blew dust and crud across the finish.
Re: Square scrub for vct
A few years back a guy was franchising a low moisture biz with a square scrubber never really caught on.
Re: Square scrub for vct
It's like VLM carpet cleaning. Guys used to wet stripping try it once, don't really know what they're doing, and proclaim that it doesn't work.
It's the only method that I use to maintain about 40,000 sq ft of VCT. Cuts my labor in half.

What's time frame on 500 sq ft striping with the square?

Where do you by the pads for the square scrub? I've been buying from powrflite, they're cheaper and just as effective as the 3M pads.
