Odd ball rigs
You might be interested in and maybe even get a laugh out of the truck mount rigs other people have and have had. In the early 90's I bought two Bates D-84 Big Red's. I put one in the back of a 1/2 ton Ford van. It was pretty cramped a bit heavy for the suspension. I moved it next into an old ambulance. I thought I was getting a good deal on an old military ambulance which had extremely low mileage. I failed to take into consideration what years of sitting around can do to a vehicle. It took some time to get it reliable but in the end it was a pretty good success. With a logo and lettering it looked like Ghost Busters. I took the red lenses off the top and replaced them with clear and they did work. I used them a time or two in Waikiki. People will stop and let you in when those big strobes are flashing. Against the law to drive with them. That lasted several years before rust got to it.
Chapter two will begin depending on interest.

Re: Odd ball rigs
I know that feeling. I started out using a Ford E450 ambulance with full strobes and red lens lights....even had a working siren and dual air blast horns.
If you gut the box, they make a pretty good rig, but mine just didn't hold enough cargo for my purpose. It is now working for an ambulance company in New Jersey.
Best part was parking it in the driveway on halloween with full strobes and lights going. We had people lying on the lawn under old bloody sheets and people dressed like cops walking around the scene.
When people walked by it and strained to peak in through the back windows, we would throw the rear doors open and a guy jumped out with a butcher's knife.
You should have seen all the bags of candy being left on my lawn as both the kids AND the adult ran for their lives.
