Scrubbing the nasties
The living room looked ten time worse than it looks in the video. Even after a slow and methodical vacuuming I still made mud when pre spraying. The tenant thought it was good enough to give us a 30.00 . I used Proycon extreme pre scrubed with Drimatic and OP with glad pads poly blend

Please tell me you have your heater fixed.....heat would have saved you a lot of time with the scrubbing. If still cold, well done!
I bet Nick would have preferred a sofa cleaning now

That heat would have cut it like butta! Nick almost vomited after vacuuming a mattress today. I let him off the hook and cleaned it myself.

Re: Scrubbing the nasties
rarely vac upholstery because rarely is there anything coming off with a good turbo tool
but our customers are instructed to vac it before we arrive if they have excessive pet hair to avoid additional charges
I wont really mess with a couch covered in cat hair, when we show up to a job its to provide a service the customer cannot do themselves (TM high heat steam cleaning)
not gonna spend an hr picking cat hair off someones couch
cant imagine if someone has sheets and a water cover on their mattress that you would get much of anything coming off with a vacuum

Re: Scrubbing the nasties
Long story short, is we pre-vac because 90% of the soil we remove (or should be removing), is dry soils that are removed with good vacuuming. If you're not doing that then you're wetting that dry soil and making mud,...good luck removing that.

I was thinking the same thing.
I want the vacuum portion of the job done correctly so that my cleaning goes easier and with better results. That means running the tm less time and less scrubbing with the wand. It is worth it to me to do the vacuuming.
That being said, most furniture is not loaded with dry soil...mostly greasy deposits from body and hair oils, but they are heavily loaded with skin. Don't forget that part, a human sheds over 1.5 lbs of skin per year and much of it right there in the furniture. Throw in a family of 4 and that equals 6 lbs of skin per year....how long do people go between cleanings??
I choose to vacuum, the 6-20 lbs of skin demands it in my view.
Re: Scrubbing the nasties
I have one of those know it all carpet cleaning friends that has been doing it for many years and he doesn't vacuum.. When I vacuum he gets mad thats why we dont work together. I just tell my customer it's ok ill vacuum again because my vacuume is a comercial vacuum with alot of power and I want to make sure its good and cleaned.
My goodness humans shed alot of skin.

Re: Scrubbing the nasties
Yeah I remember the Kirby rep doing the old panty hose over the vac hose trick and pulling out a whole bunch skin dust from my mattress.
Re: Scrubbing the nasties
Most cleaners do not vacuum, that's okay. They are just trading the time saved from not vacuuming to longer extraction effort....probably equates to about the same time / effort.
To me it is like using the dishwasher, some will rinse off the dishes first and some just stick them in and go. Those that don't rinse, often have to re-wash a few dishes that didn't clean up the first time.
Every cleaner has their own preference of how they want to spend their time and effort...before or after.

Re: Scrubbing the nasties
how much soil is actually on your customers upholstery?
our customers its pretty much nothing, you could spend 2hrs vac'ing most every couch we clean and get next to nothing in the vac canister
same goes for 95% of the carpets we clean, pretty much everyone has regular house keeping vac'ing all the time
we work for a lot of busy tech industry professionals who dont have the time to clean their own house, they have a cleaning service and the house is spotless except for food spills and grease etc in the carpet
we do occasionally run into really dusty ones and of course those need to be vac'd otherwise the job is just going to take longer.
also dont have a dry climate here and probably much different soil, most dont wear shoes inside in a place that gets a decent amount of rain.

Re: Scrubbing the nasties
Good point on the region difference, didn't think about that.
Around here, nobody removes their shoes. Heck, nobody uses welcome mats either.

Re: Scrubbing the nasties
AC brought up a very good point, wet vs. dry environment, like here.
Most of my customers, have house cleaning services also, but that doesn't mean they vac the furn.......almost all don't.
Around here 99% of the furn I clean is really dusty, and has to be pre-vac to do a proper job. It's real easy to tell if it's needed on the horizontal areas, just by slapping the top of the back cushions, and watch the dust fly, it's very rare it doesn't around here....or I just use my DM2 to first make a dry vac pass over those areas, and see what appears in the window..........I bet if did either one, most of you find it very dusty.
I vac a 7-8 ft. long sofa with my uphol tool in no more than 5-7 min.
I'm not sure why it takes AC 2 hours to pre-vac a sofa?...........as most of the time it's just the upward facing areas that need it....like the top of back cushions, arms and bottom cushions.
Where's the Beating the Dead Horse emo?~!?

Around here everyone goes barefoot in the house. Oil from bare feet and animal hair along with houses open to the breeze makes for a nice combination.
