Asked to do a 2x4 bathroom vanity. Overall it looks good but there is some staining or water damage in a spot. I was thinking so 600 grit wet sanding and some sealing. Anyone have experience with this type of job?. It is mostly smooth but this one spot is rough.

Marble honing is a treacherous task as you have to get a uniform finish. I wouldn't start with honing, try a good cleaning and polish first to see what the results will be....might be all that it needs.

I've done a few marble floors, but not vanity tops....not sure that I would want to either. On the floor, a good 175 machine works wonders, not sure what you would use on a 2x4 vanity to get a uniform pattern.....maybe an auto polisher like a cyclo?

I was going to use some 600 grit sandpaper and seal. This might be a good item to try on because customer considers is ruined so I don't have much to lose except my time. Maybe honing isn't what I need to do but it is mostly smooth except for this one spot that is rough like sandpaper and has no shine. I will try to take a picture.

Get yourself some honing powder from Pro's Choice in both grits and cut up a beige floor pad to scrub it with in small circles. I don't think you need anything more drastic than that and would have less chance of going too deep.
