Facebook page
I have come to realize that people are not using Google to look for businesses any more around here, they use Facebook now instead. I get a lot of people calling me and saying that they got my number off Facebook rather than off Google the past few days. Even when I suggested a carpet repair guy, they went to Facebook to look him up.
This means a couple of things to me:
1. I need to invest far greater time into developing my FB page.
2. Google rankings may not be that important any more.
I suppose that both should be maintained well, but I think I am going to invest more emphasis on my FB page instead of Google for the next couple of months to see what happens.
Is it that way in your areas as well?

Re: Facebook page
I don't do social media. From what I gather from others in this area, most use it for mindless droning, keeping up with people they know (and those they don't), and yard sale pages. Restaurants are the only ones I see pushing they have facebook pages. I don't see service people doing it. Though, I'm sure they do have them.
The only CC in my area that pushes it is the one that bonnet cleans (no HWE).
Though, this thread does make me think about having my wife do a FB page for my business. I personally don't want anything to do with it.
It seems with them there are only two ways about them.
1 You are totally sucked in it, wasting piles of time interacting with people, posting pictures and what have you.
2 You make a static page that you never or hardly ever post on. No one cares about this kind of page.
Maybe I am totally wrong, but this is the impression I am left about it.

Re: Facebook page
I have one and drop some pictures on it from time to time, but I rarely post much for the same reasons you mentioned. I do see a lot of cleaners using it as a secondary forum. I think it is getting bigger than you think.
Re: Facebook page
Booked 3 jobs in the past 48 hours....all through my Facebook business page and I think I just got one from my personal page as well. That sure beats the hell out of my website page.
I am really starting to think that FB is the way to go...at least in my area.

Okay add 2 more confirmations from my personal page. I posted a cat video and that lead to a discussion about pet allergies...now my phone is ringing again.
Where was all this work the last 6 months? I am booked every day from tomorrow 'til the end of the month now.

Re: Facebook page
I wouldnt form an opinion about any advertising based on just a few customers or experiences.
facebook and google are huuugggeee, so is organic SEO. These 3 are the primo ways people find your business these days. Its very important to manage all 3 well imo.
we pay a lady that is very skilled $200 a month to manage these for us. Up until earlier this year we were operating without any real revenue organically from our website, she changed that and now the website requests come in daily.
one thing that can be a problem with adwords is paying per click for the competitive keywords without having it set up professionally, this can easily run you $18 a click around here.
and the biggest problem with it is the other companies are headlining their ads with a price, so naturally the customer clicks the $20/room carpet cleaning ad that has a strong 5 star rating with 100+ reviews on google.

Re: Facebook page
Except now I have that second job interview on Tuesday. I am tripping over myself trying to walk between the 2 worlds.
I would sure like to have my van back as well, but that is still in the shop!!! One would think it was an expensive foreign sports car or something.
