Scaring a Millenial.....

Went to a large furniture store Saturday.
I had looked around locally for a lift chair for my mother. Needed to be made with Vinyl fabric, for easy clean up and no one locally could get them.
Hence, it put me on an online search, which is how I ended up in the big furniture store....

I walk in, after driving an hour, and shortly thereafter was greeted by a young "salesman". Told him what I was looking for, and he walked over to the section with ONE lift chair (they have over a dozen online).
I tell the young guy, that I need one with vinyl material. He looks at me, after fiddling with his tablet, and says he doesn't have one. Just kinda leaves the conversation hanging and is looking at me kinda stupid like.

I said " SO you aren't going to sell me a chair?" He says "No, I guess not."
You could have lit a match off my forehead, I'm sure... I looked at the kid and said "Well then I think you should go get your manager, because you should be fired." His jaw drops, and he starts losing the color in his face. Before he could say a word, I asked why he couldn't ORDER the chair, since I had already looked online and found SEVERAL just like I had asked about.
MAGICALLY, through the power of modern science, he found chairs JUST like I had wanted, on that cool little tablet of his.

I'm sure he needed to use the bathroom after I left, because I'm sure it was a mess back there.... He was flabbergasted at my actions, and I'm sure my wife was as well. I can't stand a pushy salesman, nor one that won't do their job, either.

I know not everyone is motivated enough to educate themselves (books, videos and courses) to be their best, but he had zero sales skills. I know all of us here, are MUCH better than that, when it comes to selling. This kid's JOB was sales. It's his livelihood, just like ours is. No sales, no income, no hope.

While I'm sure I looked like a world class ass, I HOPE it was a lesson to him to be better. To grow and learn how to sell and be his best.

He probably isn’t paid commission just hourly. You probably did him a favor my lighting a fire under his ass

That interaction probably sent him off to college. I think it goes back to not being able to find good employees anymore. This was probably the best that store could get and also why I do not let such people make my food for me either.
