How far would you travel
If you consider annual cost how far would you travel for commercial work.
For me I travel 1 hour 20 minutes. I consider amount if work in that big time. As far as annual income I would have to be around 8 to 10 k. Most have had other locations close by that also factor in for the whole account. I write this while sitting on the bumper of my van waiting for a key to a unit. Painful. Nice weather out though. I'm sure I'll add to it as I think and read responses.

Re: How far would you travel
45 minutes for me is about as far as I go . That is spring and fall condo cleaning in Gulf Shores .
Re: How far would you travel
When I first got into the biz I would travel up to 1hr and 15 minutes one way and that's for residential. I really needed the cash flow then.
I cut it back to a little over 30 minutes a couple of years ago. The bad part is you have tell people you don't service their area anymore when they cal.l

Re: How far would you travel
For residential it's 45 minutes with a minimum service fee.

1 hour, it's my fault because I moved out of the city. It's the same area I've been servicing for the past 18 years. I moved 30 minutes north of Tampa after growing up in the heart of the city.
Re: How far would you travel
Large Commercial: 90 minutes
Small Commercial: 60 minutes
Residential: 30-45 minutes
Like Mike, I moved outside of my old service area, so it adds another 15-20 minutes to my travel time.

Re: How far would you travel
Let's spin this topic up again.
I will add that on residential I'll travel 45 minutes but the minimum has to be over $200. Also, most need to be connected to a referral.
Also factor in monthly repeat work with earnings. We picked up an account that requires us to travel 2 hours. Multiple locations, with 80 % of the work within 45 minute radius.
You have to begin to think about stuff like this from time to time.

Re: How far would you travel
I like the referral aspect in that equation. I just cleaned for a client's sister that needed some help in order to list their house (financial situation was not good). It was about an hour away, but it was worth doing.
Sometimes you put the white hat on and ride in with the 7th Cavalry for good people. I think that helps make you worthy of having good people as customers.
Just lots of variables when deciding limits....

Re: How far would you travel
For me Travel distance has nothing to do with the type of the job, but rather the amount/total of job. I just scheduled a regular residential customer for this coming week that's about 50-60 miles south of me........which would normally be way out of my service area. But since it will be a $6-800 carpet and rug cleaning job, I'm willing to make the trip. And in addition they are also wanting help and a quote for about 1k s.f of Travertine flooring, which could likely be another 2k$ of work in the next couple weeks.
