Hey guys.
Tell me your opinions. I have found a source for a inline carbon water filter, rated to filter 98% of all contaminates including calcium, iron and chlorine. Good for 2000 gal @ 3gpm. It fits a regular garden hose fitting. Cost around $50.00

In the military, we used a charcoal filter to polish the water after purification. I think it had coconut shells as well in the housing, but it has been awhile.

That 3 gpm rating sounds good, but remember that a garden hose will provide about 12 gpm at 50 feet and a lot of TM pumps are running around 4 gpm. I don't think it could keep up.

It would be worth trying it to see what the flow rate really was and at what psi. I have used a purifier filter before in front of my butler's fresh water tank and it took forever to fill it. That filter was rated at 2 gpm, so that makes sense when filling a 110 gallon tank.

I just don't think it would flow enough to be beneficial unless one didn't mind letting a fresh water tank fill up for an hour prior to hitting the road. The cleaner water would certainly be a benefit, but I can't wait that long.

I don't think it would be designed for much more than 100 psi....just a guess though.

Yeah, its rated for 40 too 100 psi.
As for the flow of say 2 gallon a minute, I was thinking would work for a water Bx on a unit. I know that most units, are using 3 gpm or more pumps. But rarely do it, because that is a open flow rating or no pressure restrictions on the pump. Even say #6 jet is a 6gpm, but that is a rate 4000 psi.

So if you use 100 gallons per day, that thing is only good for 20 working days ? Which is 3 weeks ?

3-weeks is pretty good compared to a portable water softener. I don't know what the replacement filter would cost...that would be important.

If it could keep a water box fed without starving the pump, it would be worth it.

That is the thing. It is a throw away filter no changing the cartridge. And again 2000 gal is depending on how quick the filter gets clogged up.

I'm not trying to be cheap but $ 50 for 3 - 4 weeks is kinda steep no ? A descaler is much cheaper than that and as long as you use it properly you can clear a lot of stuffs up without ruining the plumbing ? I know the cleaning quality is something that descaler can't do anything about.
Maybe we can use that on certain jobs ? Like really dirty ones to help with the cleaning ?

It really comes down to what your local water source is like. For those areas with water that is more like a swimming pool, this would be a must have filter. Same would be true for any rural areas running on well water.

Just depends on your needs.
