Finally, the gloom has passed
We have been getting a daily barrage of snow and ice for the last 2 weeks and there was no call for cleanings. I hate long slumps of inactivity, it isn't good for the wallet and it sure isn't good for the mind. After another 3 inches on Saturday, we had a sunny day today which hit 42 degrees. You would have thought it was Spring as people were outside shooting hoops and just acting like humans again....and the phone rang.
It was a request for an immediate cleaning about 30 minutes away. The lady was house-sitting and had a 2-Litre bottle of soda burst in the living room. I was tired of being the Maytag repair man, so I took the job. Turned out to be a pleasant one with a very simple task. The customer was the cleaning director of a very large private school and we chatted it up regarding some cleaning tips. It was just a truck minimum job, but she tipped well and booked me another job with her neighbor before I left as well scheduled some upholstery later in the week.
It was so nice to be able to come home and not need to unload / winterize immediately. Weather looks like more of the same all week, so hopefully there will be an early Spring kick off this year. My wallet and mind both could use the work.

A slow month does mess with your mind. Im.on track to have the worst Jan and Feb don't know What the hell is going on. Doing a job this slow season feels great
Re: Finally, the gloom has passed
That is very strange for your area Mo isn't it? I would have expected you to be busy with all that is going on.
Maybe you should call yourself?

Been slow here, but par for the course in the North East, actually did some bigger jobs by
So not sweating it as much. Gearing up for spring. Going to be much more selective about what work I am taking in. Vowed not to take any time wasting, money losing jobs. Like: my Shepard just had massive diahrea all over, can you get here immediately? Oh and now that your done I have to post date the check for 2 weeks. True story, was helping out a friend of a friend at the holidays. When she texted me last week, oh no, it's happened again.......turned her down cold.

Re: Finally, the gloom has passed
I have been gearing up for Spring as well and we will have upper 40's for most of this week so I am hoping for some action....especially since all the ice and snow has left everything solid mud around here since the warming. I noticed a spike in my Facebook website visits and there has been more traffic to the website in the last couple of days.
I don't any real strategy this year other than trying to keep building on the residential jobs. It still hasn't grown near as much as I had hoped for last year, but who knows what happens this time around.

Re: Finally, the gloom has passed
I finally have some work scheduled this week. I didn't have any work last week. I hope this trend continues
Re: Finally, the gloom has passed
I hope so Mo! We went back into the cold rainy weather and there is a winter-mix for the next 2 days, but then he burst into the 50's and even upper 60's towards the end of the week. I have been banging the drum about Spring cleaning and hope that the Sunshine will generate some much needed work. Right now, there is nothing scheduled this week.
Re: Finally, the gloom has passed
I am thinking about it, but I really want to get some work out of it first. I get nervous with just one machine available.
